PROFESSIONAL DRIVER’S GUIDE: HOW TO STAY ALERT DURING LONG SHIFTS

Professional truck drivers often find themselves working late shifts or long hours. During these times, it’s easy to feel tired and drained from the demanding workload. So, what can they do to stay awake?

Every driver has their own method for staying alert. Some sing at the top of their lungs, others prefer rolling down the window for a breath of fresh air, or they resort to other quirky tactics. However, one thing they all have in common is turning to some form of an “energy drink.”

But which option is the best?

COFFEE

In addition to providing an energy boost, a cup of coffee also offers various health benefits. Since it’s readily available and affordable, coffee tends to be the most popular choice. However, it’s important not to overdo it, as too much caffeine can lead to adverse effects like energy crashes or post-consumption discomfort. Moderation is key, and it’s advisable to pair coffee with healthy food choices for a balanced approach.

ENERGY DRINKS

Energy drinks like Monster, Red Bull, Rockstar, and others provide a quick energy kick, but often contain unhealthy ingredients. Despite some marketing themselves as healthy options, they commonly result in side effects such as anxiety, jitteriness, insomnia, dizziness, and headaches. Moreover, they typically lead to rapid energy crashes. Instead of opting for these sugar and chemical-laden options, choosing water is preferable, offering a natural and sustainable source of energy.

WATER

Staying hydrated is the best way to remain alert on the road. Water not only hydrates the body but also serves as a natural energy booster. Regular consumption of water throughout the day is essential for maintaining alertness. While the occasional cup of coffee is acceptable, it should always be within the recommended limits set by your healthcare provider.
